Australia bring in Usman Khawaja for the second and third One-Day Internationals (ODI) against India, as cover for David Warner, with the opener going on paternity leave to be with his wife Candice for the birth of their second child.
"Usman has been in fantastic form this season and was unlucky to miss out on a place in our squad for the Victoria Bitter ODI Series in the first place. This call-up is a reward for that form and it is great to have someone of his quality to step into the squad in David's absence,"Rod Marsh, National Selector, was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au on Tuesday (January 12).
"We wish both David and Candice well and look forward to welcoming David back into the squad when circumstances allow," Marsh added.
Khawaja will join the squad before the second ODI in Brisbane on Friday. With this move, Sydney Thunder, the Big Bash League side, will be without the services of Khawaja for their last league game in the must-win Sydney Derby on January 16.
