Australia skipper SPD Smith’s smashed 149 off 135 balls and GJ Bailey struck 112 off 120 balls as Asutralia beat India by 5 wickets in the first One Day International at at WACA stadium in Perth on Tuesday.
Batting first, India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma hit a rollicking 171 to set up a commandable total of 309/3 in 50 overs. Rohit Sharma who scored his 8th ton had seven sixes and 13 fours in his innings. Rohit’s unbeaten 171 – which surpassed Viv Richards’ 153* as the highest ODI score against Australia in Australia – added to a growing library of monumental limited-overs innings. Rohit Sharma stitched two 200-run partnership with virat Kohli (91) and MS Dhoni (18). JP Faulkner took two wickets, while JR Hazlewood picked up one.
Earlier, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat in the opening game of the five-match ODI series at the WACA Ground. Left-arm medium pacer from Punjab, Barinder Sran will be making his debut in international cricket. Steven Smith’s side is having two debutants in Joel Paris and Scott Boland.
